No swords and sorcery here, this is magical a castle for princesses and fairies.
At Playways, we’ve designed many castles in the past years, and it seems they just keep getting better and better.
This project was based on the castle part of a playhouse castle combination we built in 2015, the pictures of which really excited the client when I showed them to him at our initial meeting in September 2016.
We started by producing conceptual 3D drawings. By this means we were able to get the proportional ‘feel’ of the structure right, as well as make sure that elements such as the internal staircase and the spiral slide actually worked within the design.
We were keen to ensure that the Castle we designed was not ‘blocky’ or too heavy looking. This was not to be a fortress, so introducing round topped windows and arched openings, as well as the textual variation of the cedar roofs ensured that there was a elegance and charm to the finished design.
Using a variety of paint colours, including the blue piping on the roofs, and adding the shields with the initials of the 4 girls went further to adding interest and relief to the castle.
One of the finishing touches was inevitable the fairy stencilling on the inside of the playhouse.
We were really pleased with the finished installation, as was the customer and of course all his princesses and fairies. It was project for showing our flair for design and build.
With all projects like this, they spark further ideas, things that next time round would add or do in a different way, such as the introduction of the new window shape on this one.
