I really wanted to share this recent project in Exeter, Devon as it clearly demonstrates a number of aspects of our work. The Otter Cottage has been a favourite of ours right from the start when we started making garden play equipment in Devon nearly 10 years ago. As with everything that we do we try to make high quality products which are just that bit special. And one of the ways that we achieve this is by listening to our customers. The customer in this case had already made up her mind on a playhouse, and the Otter Cottage children’s playhouse fitted the bill perfectly. With equal determination she had already drawn for us a sketch of the monkey bars / swing beam that she had in mind. We were able to add a climbing wall and a fireman’s pole, as well as the hooks to take a hammock in the central space. By bracing the climbing frame and ensuring the poles were securely concreted into the ground we brought the customers outline sketch to life.

Our playhouses are made to our own careful designs The Otter cottage playhouse has a very high specification. The stunning cedar shingle roof is made even more characterful by the gable over the door. The shape of the gable is continued inside to really enhance the feeling of spaciousness. The walls and ceiling inside are lined with plywood and then painted (in at least 3 coats of paint) so the interior of the wooden playhouse is just like being in the plastered room of a real house. All this detail is a considearble amount of work but we really think its worth it as the finished result is absolutely stunning.
